10 Most Important Skin Care and Beauty Trends for 2018

    5 min read

The New Year is almost upon us and if you love beauty as much as we do, you know what that means: skin care and beauty trends! So what’s in store for 2018? Since we’re so excited for what’s coming, we’re sharing our list early so you can gear up for a gorgeous New Year. (Think of it as a holiday present!) 1. Customization There’s been a lot of talk lately about beauty brands moving towards customization and addressing everyone’s unique beauty needs. This trend is only going to grow in the New Year, as Cosmetics Business points out.  Customizing your skin care regimen based on the season and your particular skin needs is a great way to keep your skin in top condition all year long. We believe you can make a few smart changes, mostly to do with the type of cleanser and moisturizer you use, every season that will benefit your skin for the months ahead. 2. Beyond Natural Ingredients - Sustainable Sourcing Another major trend for 2018 will be not only enjoying natural ingredients in beauty and skincare but also knowing exactly where and how they are sourced, just like your favorite food. Natural ingredients have the benefit of being better both for you and the environment. Safe, gentle, and sustainably sourced, plant-based brands are now using ingredients that are renewable and bringing those to a shelf near you. But natural ingredients must be sustainably sourced. Using chemical harvesting processes, farming certain ingredients, or even sourcing ingredients from an environment that have been heavily damaged reduces the efficacy of the ingredient. That’s why taking care of how and where ingredients are sources are so important. Repêchage not only uses natural ingredients, we also source them sustainably; our seaweed and other natural ingredients are sourced right off the coast of Down East Maine. Our entire process, which you can read about here, is designed to encourage the ingredients to replenish in their natural environment. Next year, seaweed skin care is set to take center stage. Our line of skin care products will no doubt be on your mind when the trend hits big, so bookmark this page! 3. Skin Care Inspired by Food K Beauty is still a large influencer for skincare, and 2018 will be no different. The newest trend in the Korean market, however, may surprise you: food-inspired skincare products. Cosmetics and Toiletries did a short tour of some of the food-inspired products on the market today, ranging from cleansing balms to body washes. Dessert and fruit flavors are especially popular, although we think you’ll also enjoy the different flavor choices we have in our FUSION Face Masks, such as chocolate, mixed berry, matcha, and vanilla/pumpkin. 4. Masks, Masks, Masks Masks made a big splash in 2017, and in 2018 their growth will continue. Not your mother’s cream-type mask, these masks can be used on your face, hair, chest, and arms. They come in a variety of textures and can combat different issues, such as crow’s feet, fine lines, redness, and dry skin. Multi-masking is also rising as a mini-trend. The idea behind multi-masking is that you use different masks for different zones of your face, which may require different ingredients. We suggest you check out this article about it so you can know how to proceed with this interesting trend! 5. Sheet Masks Okay, okay, we just talked about masks, right? Why are sheet masks their own trend? It’s not that big of a deal, is it? Actually, it is. The sheet mask trend, while already popular in Asia, is taking off in America. Ranging from daily masks packaged in bundles to luxurious one-off singles, you can find a sheet mask for just about any need or type of event. But what makes sheet masks a trend? Frankly, they’re simple to use. Our Triple Action Peptide Mask, which has been rated number one by American Spa, is just one sheet, stepped in amazing ingredients, that you apply to your face for up to 15 minutes and then take off. Yes, it’s that simple. 6. Fighting Pollution is the New Fighting UV Rays You can’t just wear sunscreen, think you’re fighting off UV rays, and then expect that you’re protected from everything else. The truth is that air pollution can harm your skin, not to mention your health, by causing oxidative stress, as this article discusses. The solution, and a 2018 trend, is finding products that are rich in antioxidants and start incorporating them into your daily skin care routine. 7. Guilt-Free Skin Care You’ve probably noticed that many more people are paying attention to not only what’s in their skincare and beauty products, but how they are manufactured. That’s because there’s a trend that will continue into 2018 towards awareness and guilt-free skin care, especially cruelty-free products and brands. We’re proud to say that Repêchage does not test any product on animals and we also use a variety of vegan ingredients that are sustainably sourced. We’ll continue to be following our ethics into the New Year as well! 8. Skin Care & Spa - Stress Relief for Tweens and Teens If you have a tween or teen that has a hard time dealing with stress, why not take a page out of the 2018 trend of giving them professional skincare or a trip to the spa? Self-care is an important part of stress relief, even for tweens and teens; a trip to the spa can be a great way to help ease their stress, as written about in this article. A massage, facials, manicures, and more can be a good investment, especially if tweens and teens are taught to continue their treatments at home. Professional skin care is also on the rise, and for good reason; many skin care experts believe that the earlier kids know about how to take care of their skin, the better they will age. It can also help take care of issues that may be embarrassing, such as acne or redness.  9. Self-Care Staycation Self-care is going to be a monumental beauty trend in 2018; it’s already racking up a lot of interest from people who are in need of putting themselves first. This ranges from meditation to finding the perfect skin care regimen for your needs, but the term “self-care” means whatever you need to feel your best. Self-care staycations are also known as home spa days. This is when you take a nice long bath, meditate, and do a full skincare body and face routine. Nothing is more relaxing, or rewarding, than incorporating a few of these days into your schedule, so start putting them in your planner now! 10. Sleep Crisis Did you know that the sleep crisis, and finding ways to fix it is set to be a trend next year? It’s absolutely true. With more than half of all Americans reporting they don’t get enough sleep every night, it’s become urgent to find a way to help them get their beauty rest. One great way to do this is through a combination of spa treatments and aromatherapy-styled products. This can include a massage that incorporates soothing smells like vanilla and lavender. Spa skin care products, like masks and moisturizers, can also bring the same effect. So there you have it, our picks for 2018’s best beauty trends. From personalizing your entire beauty regime for your personal needs to battling sleep deprivation through scented products, these are the trends you’ll be seeing a whole lot of in the New Year.
