3 Beauty Reasons to Thank Mother Earth For!

April is Earth Month and we love celebrating Mother Nature! Thanks to her, we are able to feel and look our best on the inside and out! While there are many aspects of Mother Nature to be thankful for, these 3 deserve special attention.

Water

As we know, water is essential to life, and thus has one of the greatest impacts on beauty and health. In fact, our skin, the largest organ in our body, is between 50% and 75% water. Water is essential to cool, lubricate, and flush out waste and toxins in our body. It helps us fight illness, regulates temperature and moisturizes our skin. Water also helps to prevent dehydration that leads to weakness, fatigue and a dull appearance. Our entire bodies are made up of about 75% water but lose about 10 cups of it a day through urine, perspiration and simply breathing. Thankfully water is a natural resource from Mother Nature and we can maintain hydration and health by getting our recommended intake of at least 2 liters of water a day.

Seaweed

Another natural resource to thank Mother Nature for – seaweed! Seaweed is a nutrient-rich source from the ocean that is valuable to our beauty and health. The consumption of seaweed has been part of Japanese culture for centuries, and as we have seen, “sushi” has become one of the most popular foods in western culture. Not only is seaweed a great food to consume, but seaweed is valuable as a topical ingredient for our skin. Seaweed is known for its hydrating nourishing, and anti-oxidant properties, and is a natural source of 12 vitamins, 18 amino acids, and 42 trace elements. Seaweed contains essential fatty acids that help maintain our skin’s barrier, and polysaccharides such as Alginic Acid, which help to lock moisture into our skin. Plus, Mother Nature provides us with many different species of seaweed, and in fact, different species of seaweed can help address different skin concerns that we have!

Zinc Oxide

Protection from the sun’s UV rays is key to prevent sunburns, wrinkles, and hyperpigmentation on our skin. When it comes to protecting our skin from the sun’s UV rays and environmental aggressors, Mother Nature has thankfully given us Zinc Oxide. Zinc Oxide is a soft, white, mineral that works as a physical sunscreen – different from chemical sunscreens that can be irritating to the skin. (You can read about the difference between the physical and chemical sunscreens here: What Does Sunscreen Mean?) Zinc Oxide is also known for its astringent, healing, and soothing absorbent properties. Especially with summer on the way, keep zinc oxide in mind as protector for your skin!
