Skin Profile: Acne (Problematic) Skin
In this week’s edition of our Skin Profile series, we want to discuss one of the worst skin nightmares of them all; acne. If you suffer from acne, trust us, you are not alone. Close to 85% of people will experience some form of acne in their lifetime.[1] Whether it is one small blemish or a face full of pimples, waking up and looking in the mirror to find either can ruin your day.
Acne usually starts up in our teenage years. This stems from an increase in the hormone androgen that stimulates the amount of oil produced by the sebaceous glands, which are found in our skin. When these glands are plugged with waxy oil, blackheads and whiteheads form. When they are infected with bacteria, welts, deep lumps, and pimples arise. However, acne is not just seen in teenagers, adults can suffer from acne as well. Regardless of your age, dealing with pimples, blackheads, whiteheads, or pustules is simply not fun, and not something that anyone should have to experience.
The key to fighting acne is taking it head on. Seeking professional treatment is the first step. We recommend visiting a trained esthetician at least once a week for four weeks, and once a month thereafter. The Hydra MedicFacial® with Desincrustation Mask will help cleanse your pores, purify your skin, and control existing breakouts while helping to prevent new ones from forming. This mask is applied to prep the skin for extractions, making extractions easier to manage, and while also minimizing skin trauma. Squeezing and picking can lead to dark spots – so leave it to the pros! The seaweed in this mask is high in essential fatty acids, Vitamins B and C, and is used in combination with Zinc to moisturize and protect your skin. Not sure where to go to find a qualified esthetician? For tips on how you can find one, click here, or visit our Locate a Spa page to see professional salons and spas in your area.
As far as treating acne at home, we understand how intimidating (and sometimes scary) it can be to try to tackle a whole new skin care range. To get you started, we have assembled the Hydra Medic® Travel/Starter Collection which is specifically made for acne and sensitive skin. It is so important to have a well-rounded supply of products, and incorporate the necessary steps of skincare routine. That’s why we have included a supply of each Hydra Medic® product in the collection, including a cleanser, astringent, moisturizer, serum, drying lotion, and mask. Once you’re in love, and we know you will be, stock up on the full size regimen to maintain a spot-free complexion in between facial visits.
